Letters in our Name

For most children, their first understanding of the importance of letters is when they realize that they can learn to spell and write their name. But the journey from hearing their name to eventually learning to write it on their own is a long one. Along the way, our teachers help students begin to recognize the different letters and understand that those letters each make unique sounds.

Mrs. Dulce helps her students understand letters in many different mediums. Most recently the students used fine motor skills to clip clothespins matching all of the letters in their names. Once they did that, she had them continue to identify those letters by matching a block letter to the clothespin. When children can recognize the letters written in many different forms, made from many different materials, they have taken the first step in eventually spelling and writing their name. The best part? They have so much fun doing it!
